For many rubber components Lexington utilizes tight-tolerance “flashless” molds. In a flashless mold each cavity is made up of a separate stack of precisely machined, self-registering inserts. The inserts have microscopic, laser-cut vents that permit gases to escape from the cavities during the molding process while limiting flash extension to nominal levels.
Flashless molds can be more complex and expensive than conventional cut-in-plate molds, but they have many benefits that can more than justify the investment.
